Week One Preview
We live in a society where achievement and exhaustion are status symbols. One of the hottest books of the decade for business is The Four Hour Work Week.
Hottest growing desires among many under 30, is to be a part time, traveling influenced or instagram/Youtube star. People save for vacation and retirement. Dreams are put on hold in exchange for “things”.
What does this mean?
We are tired!
The truth is, most of us are working longer hours (not counting things like this, posting on social networks), for less money and less relaxation.
It’s not unusual to have had teen clients in my office who are failing school and having trouble with family, who are spending all night texting or online.
The greatest lives are those that work less. By work, I mean any activity-compensated or otherwise.
Being tired is such a norm that people drink coffee, soda, smoke or develop anxiety, depression or weight gain.. and think it’s age, a rite of passage or normal.
This has to stop!
Studies show that those who score higher on IQ, creativity and happiness “tests” (research plus self disclosure), all have napped.
One study had three groups... one focused on a nap, one on stimulation and the other on wake resting.
The nap group scored 38% higher in cognitive function with a puzzle that needed a creative solution.
Imagine if you could operate at almost 40% efficiency....
- This week, daily, set a timer for 5 minutes & close your eyes.
- This can be in a bed, at a desk, on a train, etc..
- Directly after, journal, doodle or create in some way.
Make a commitment to take a walk for five minutes soon after, even if just up and down the train aisle once :)
This week we are engaging the nap-cognitive-somatic system.
QUESTION: Comment below... let me know your biggest sleep struggle (do you have a hard time falling asleep, or do you wake up at a certain time, do you find it hard to find time for naps?)
