“I do the breakdowns on the stage, instead of the streets”
So I’m Laurene
And my story is amazing.
I suppose that is why its going in a book called “Simply amazing”.
I was diagnosed with a serious mental health issue” Borderline personality disorder” went into a Therapeutic community, and came out with 100 percent recovery and inner peace .
I have been out of the community for 6 years and I have never used medication.
So if I can do it surely its possible, to manage a serious illness without meds?
Why am I different to so many that cant seem to be well?
I never tell anyone not to take medication, but I am trying to show, there is another way to recover and stay well , if you are diagnosed with Bpd only. I don’t deal with any other mental illness. With Bpd,”Complex needs disorder” you can go to the doctor, ask to be placed in a Therapeutic community and that’s when the hard work starts,, as you find out where you were shocked in the first place.
I believe that, I have something powerful that keeps me strong. I’m not religious but I believe in something that is not physical, beyond me. An energy like electricity, I knew was there for me ,the first time I sang at the age of 13 and my voice got higher and I thought I would float out of the room.
I tap into this energy through the boundless creativity and talents I was so lucky to have been given.
But until I spent 2 years in a Therapeutic community learning , how to live in the world, interacting with others and tapping into what had shocked me into having continuous break downs, I wasn’t able to do anything with this talent, I didn’t know how to use it to help myself and others.
So when I came out of the community in 2012 I was ready to form my theatre company, Moving on theatre and to perform the life and music of artists like myself with mental health problems, Piaf and Callas, to do the breakdowns on the stage instead of on the street where I can be arrested and thrown in a cell.
How cool it is, to be applauded for screaming and emoting and crying on the stage, and getting 5 star reviews and standing ovations.
Then I talk about how lucky I am to be sane due to my love of singing and running my theatre company and I explain about the community and how it saved my life without meds.
Its still not as easy a ride , as I would like it to be, as despite my 5 star review for Piaf and my standing ovations and amazing feedback for my shows, I haven’t been able to get on tv or radio or get programmed into theatres without having to spend all my money without them doing anything to promote my show, and tv shows don’t seem to want to put me on to sing or talk about my recovery because I’m not famous so the stress can be bad.
But I don’t intend to give up!
I know that I have great story of success to tell so plugging away.
I now intend to keep on working on these talents with Moving on theatre and my Tv station which I formed for everyone to express themselves on
Moving on tv.
So Once you go through the process of recovery , do what you love, and use the structure of work small achievable goals and commitment and you will thrive. Performing and directing and running my theatre company is my medication my metaphorical drug.
